Boating

Importance of getting a boating license

Boating has become one of the major recreational activities of most people including the rich and those who can barely afford to buy their own boats. More people are getting addicted to boating because of the freedom offered by sailing.

While anyone with a boat can go boating as he pleases, the act of sailing a boat is however regulated by federal law as well as the law of every state. Thus, every boating enthusiast must be aware of the importance of getting a boating license before even thinking of buying his own ship or renting one.

Boating may look like a pleasurable activity but it requires skills and experience. No one can just go boating without knowing the basic requirements of boating including the licenses as required by law.

The fact that boating has become a family hobby should encourage boating enthusiasts in getting licenses to make sure of the safety of his family and everyone concerned. Getting a license can vary in every state but there are general rules on getting a license.

Federal law requires a license for all motor vehicles and this includes boats. However, even boats that aren't motorized are also required to have licenses. There are states that require motorboats to be titled and boat owners should check on the laws of their respective states to make sure they aren't violating these laws when using their boats.

Generally, boaters have to take and pass an examination before they can get a certificate and a boating safety ID. Those who are planning to take the exam should look for practice examination kits made available for free by various websites.

You can take the boaters exam online for as little as fifteen dollars. The result of the examination is immediately released and if the examinee passed the exam, he will be given a provisional certificate. The boating certificate and identification card will be mailed to the examinee.

In Florida, boaters of any age can take an online exam and get their license within two to three weeks. Passing the Florida boating examination will be beneficial for the enthusiast because he will be entitled to an insurance discount. Insurance companies give discounts for boaters who have passed the safety exam because those who took and pass the exam are expected to have understood and have mastered the safety rules in boating.

Boating is a relaxing hobby but every boater must make sure they have the necessary license and required registration before embarking on any sailing activity.
