Boating Helpful Tips in Case of Getting Stranded while Boating
Boating is a big adventure. To most people, it is the ultimate lifestyle to be out on the water, enjoying the wind and navigating your own boat.
It teaches you so many things. It can bring you to many places. It can allow the passenger to do things like fishing. It can make you see beautiful sights that can't be seen on land. It can also make you appreciate nature.
Getting Stranded
Still, no matter how wonderful the boating experience can be, it also has its downside. Getting stranded is one of the things that could happen in your boating adventure.
Getting stranded in the middle of the sea could happen due to many reasons. It could be because the boat ran out of gas or there could be some problem with the engine. It is also possible that something just got stuck and has to be repaired. Bad weather conditions could also be a culprit.
There are factors that can be avoided. There are some that simply happen due to unfortunate circumstances. No matter what, the important thing is that you should know the necessary steps to do when one gets stranded.
Here are some tips to take note:
1. Think first before taking action. Often times, when the boat suddenly stops, the immediate reaction is to paddle someplace. Don't fail to consider the different factors in the surroundings. It is best to assess first the situation.
2. Evaluate first the environment. Ask various questions. It is important to know the crucial aspects in the sea.
Is there any way of knowing the exact location where you're stranded? Is the water deep? Are the tides
strong? Are there rocks near you that might damage the propellers or engine?
3. Radio right away. This is the best thing to do when you have signal. Ask for assistance, guidance or help.
4. Wait for a while. Sometimes, the engine may just need some rest.
5. If it wasn't that long since you left the grounds, it is possible that you are still near the shore. There could be some marks or signs that could help you trace and paddle your way back.
6. Watch out for other boats that might pass by. Ask for help. Simply use a rope so that the boat can be pulled to a safer location.
7. Put on some sunscreen and drink water. This is to avoid getting burned and dehydrated.
Conclusion
Unexpected events can happen on the water. They may be scary. Just keep calm. Be in control. Be a survivor.
